Wirral Bus Changes: Two Routes Withdrawn, Most Renumbered

Wirral is one of the few places round here where the council’s name and the name people use are the same word. It is a peninsula with the Mersey on one side and the Dee on the other, and residents say they are from Wirral rather than from the borough or the county.

The two coasts are not alike. West Kirby, Hoylake, Meols, Caldy, Heswall and Thurstaston look across the Dee to Wales. Birkenhead, Wallasey, New Brighton, Bebington, Bromborough and Port Sunlight face Liverpool and the docks. One council decides planning, bins, parking and licensing for all of it, and publishes the evidence where hardly anyone reads it.
