Caffe Cream, Benty Farm, Claremont Farm and Port Sunlight's Tudor Rose lead 12 Wirral cafes, with hours, dog rules and hygiene ratings checked October 2026.
The Wirral cafes people look for most are Caffe Cream, the ice cream and coffee shop that started on New Brighton promenade in 2012, the farm cafes at Benty Farm on Thurstaston Common and Claremont Farm near Clatterbridge, and the tea rooms of Port Sunlight village. Every entry checked against the cafe’s own website, or the published page of whoever runs the building, on 27 October 2026.
We have not reviewed these cafes and nothing here is a rating. Each entry sets out what the cafe says about itself and publishes about its hours, menu, dogs and children, then adds the public record: the Food Standards Agency hygiene rating, given by Wirral Council’s inspectors, and any listing or award we could check. Where a cafe does not publish something, we have not guessed. Hours change in winter and at short notice, so check before you set off.
West Kirby, Hoylake and Thurstaston
Aubergine Café, West Kirby
Aubergine describes itself as “a small licensed neighbourhood café” in a former lock-up, “tucked away down a small pedestrianised side street” in West Kirby. It says the kitchen works with the seasons, with daily specials and a menu that changes every few weeks, and calls itself family owned and award-winning, without naming the award. Merseyrail’s guide to coffee on its network says its beans come from a local artisan roaster, and singles out the all-day breakfast and afternoon tea. The kitchen handles nuts, shellfish and milk, so tell staff about allergies. The website publishes no opening hours: call 0151 625 2662. Hygiene rating 5 (FSA, 6 July 2026). Blenheim Building, Crescent Walk, CH48 4DA, a short walk from West Kirby station. Our listing.
Flissy’s @ The Station, Hoylake
A grab-and-go coffee shop inside Hoylake railway station, run by Felicity and Andy Dean. Merseyrail’s tenant page lists hot and cold food and drinks and a cake counter, names the honeycomb latte and a homemade Biscoff rocky road as the favourites, and gives the hours as 6.30am to 2pm, Monday to Friday. When it opened, Merseyrail described it as dog-friendly, selling snacks for dogs and, in summer, dog-friendly ice cream. Felicity Dean’s first cafe, Flissy’s Coffee Shop at GJ’s on Station Road, Thurstaston, CH61 0HN, also holds a 5 (FSA, 27 February 2026). Hygiene rating at Hoylake 5 (FSA, 10 June 2026). Hoylake station, Station Road, CH47 4AA. Our listing.
Benty Farm Tearooms, Thurstaston
A tearoom on a small farmstead “in an isolated position on Thurstaston Common”, serving, in its own words, “seasonal homemade food & cake” with views over the common. The cream tea is £9 and an afternoon tea box £20; its Guinness cake, butternut squash and orange cake and Dorset apple cake are marked award-winning, though the award is not named. It also runs pick-your-own and a tulip field in season. The farm is reached on foot only: the plan your visit page says to park on School Lane, off Thurstaston Road, and walk about 400 metres down the farm track through woodland and over a cattle grid, or follow the footpath from Royden Park. That page gives the hours as 10am to 2pm Wednesday to Friday and 10am to 4pm at weekends, closed Monday and Tuesday, and advises checking its social pages first, as hours can change at short notice. Call 0151 648 2746. Hygiene rating 5 (FSA, 30 December 2024). 3a School Lane, Thurstaston, CH61 0HH.

Caffe Cream, Birkenhead Park and Tam O’Shanter Farm
Caffe Cream runs the cafe in the Birkenhead Park visitor centre. Its stores page gives the hours as 9am to 4pm every day and lists it as dog friendly. It has also opened at Tam O’Shanter Urban Farm on Boundary Road, Bidston, CH43 7PD, open 9.30am to 4pm daily and also dog friendly, at the foot of Bidston Hill. The ice cream is the same as at New Brighton, below. Hygiene rating in the park 5 (FSA, 4 September 2025). Birkenhead Park Visitor Centre, Park Drive, CH41 4HY. Our listing.
Wallasey and New Brighton
Caffe Cream, New Brighton
The first Caffe Cream opened on the promenade at Marine Point in 2012. The company’s story page says the idea came from trips to Italy and its gelato parlours, and that its ice cream is made in small batches at its own factory on the Wirral, with more than 140 flavours created so far, including a vegan range. It says it has won 15 ICA National Ice Cream Awards and five Great Taste Awards, two of them for vegan ice cream. Alongside the ice cream it sells coffee, hot chocolate, handmade cookies and grilled cheese. Open 9am to 5pm every day, with free parking, according to its stores page. Hygiene rating 5 (FSA, 25 November 2025). 1 Marine Point, New Brighton, CH45 2PB. Our listing.

Its website says Wednesday 23 December 2026 is the last day of sit-in table service; from January to March 2027 it will do takeaway collections and gift voucher redemptions only, and it will close permanently in late March 2027. Until then the adult afternoon tea is £16.95: finger sandwiches, a quiche of the day, scones with clotted cream and tea or coffee, with vegetarian, gluten-free, vegan and children’s versions if you say so when booking. Open Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 4pm, kitchen closing at 3pm; Sundays are kept for private hire and events. Call 07919 092 812. Hygiene rating 5 (FSA, 27 January 2026). 258 Wallasey Village, CH45 3HB.
Port Sunlight, New Ferry and Clatterbridge
The three Port Sunlight cafes below have no websites of their own that we could find. Their details come from the Port Sunlight Village Trust’s eating and drinking page, which lists the businesses in the village, and from the public records named in each entry.
Tudor Rose Tea Rooms, Port Sunlight
A traditional tea room in the village’s former post office, opposite Port Sunlight station. The building, 88 and 88A Greendale Road, was designed by Grayson and Ould and built in 1891, and is Grade II listed (Historic England list entry 1343479). The village trust lists afternoon teas, sandwiches and cakes, with opening hours of 10am to 4pm Monday to Saturday and 11am to 3pm on Sunday. Nettle, Port Sunlight
A cafe and second-hand bookshop in the old bank on Greendale Road, also opposite the station. The village trust describes it as community-focused, serving hot drinks, lunches, brunches and bakes, with workshops and events by local makers; it is open Monday and Wednesday to Sunday and closed on Tuesday. Its founder, Julia Strelczuk, previously ran a cafe at Make Hamilton in Birkenhead, and the Kindred LCR site reported that Nettle grew from two staff to 12 in its first year. Hygiene rating 5 (FSA, 20 August 2025). 93 Greendale Road, Port Sunlight, CH62 4YU.
Cobble & Hay, Port Sunlight
The newest of the village’s cafes, in the old stables behind the Gladstone Theatre. The village trust lists hearty food, hot and cold drinks and a shop, with seating indoors and out, open 8am to 6pm on Monday and Thursday to Sunday and closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. Hygiene rating 5 (FSA, 20 August 2026). The Stables, Gladstone Hall Road, Port Sunlight, CH62 4YA.
Bloomies (Blooming Skull Coffee), New Ferry
Blooming Skull now trades as Bloomies and calls itself “your local speciality coffee shop”, serving coffee from speciality roasters, homemade bakes and local gifts. It was shortlisted for Best Neighbourhood Coffee Spot in the Brian’s Coffee Spot 2022 awards. The New Ferry shop is open every day, 8am to 4pm. A second branch, Bloomies at Make, is at 69 to 71 Argyle Street, Birkenhead, CH41 6LQ, open 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 3pm on Saturday, closed Sunday. Claremont Farm Cafe, Clatterbridge
The cafe beside the Claremont Farm shop, whose cafe page says “Fresh, local, seasonal is our mantra”, with everything made in-house from local ingredients. Breakfast runs from 9am to 11.30am and brunch, including the children’s meals, soup, salads and sandwiches, from 11.30am to 3pm. Open every day 9am to 5pm, with last hot food at 3pm and last drinks and cake at 4.30pm; the farm shop keeps the same hours. Pumpkin picking is open this autumn, the farm’s home page says. The cafe posts daily updates on its Facebook page. Call 07867 015246. The FSA register has no separate entry for the cafe; the farm shop at Claremont Farm is rated 5 (FSA, 8 August 2025). Old Clatterbridge Road, Bebington, CH63 4JB.
How we chose
These are the cafes people search for, picked from the public record rather than on taste: how long a place has traded, published listings such as Merseyrail’s coffee guide, the Port Sunlight Village Trust’s list and the Brian’s Coffee Spot awards, what each cafe publishes about itself, and the Food Standards Agency hygiene rating. Nothing here has a hygiene rating below 4. We left out cafes we could not check against a website of their own or a published page from the people who run the building, which ruled out some well-known names such as Wylde in Heswall and Lateral in West Kirby for now. Hours and menus change, so check with the cafe before you set off.
