Wirral Youth Market Bromborough 22 Aug: 85+ young traders

More than 85 young traders and performers have signed up for the Wirral Youth Market in Bromborough next Saturday, 22 August, which makes it the largest the borough has held since the events began in 2023. It runs from 10am to 4pm on Allport Lane, in the town centre, and is free to attend, with free children’s fairground rides alongside the stalls and a live stage. What is on

The council describes the line-up as market stalls, creative products, food and drink, arts and crafts, plus performances from young musicians and entertainers from across Wirral. Pitches are free to the traders, who get a gazebo, table and chairs, and the call for applications went out on 23 July to anyone with “a business idea, side hustle, creative brand or established small enterprise”. Registrations went on to beat the previous highest number of applications for any Wirral Youth Market. (Wirral View, 23 July 2026; Wirral View, 11 August 2026)

Why this one is different

Two things set the Bromborough edition apart from the earlier markets in Liscard, New Brighton, West Kirby and Birkenhead.

It is the biggest. The West Kirby market in August 2025 had 45 stalls and drew an estimated 10,000 visitors on a warm Bank Holiday Saturday, which the council called a record at the time. The Christmas market at Birkenhead Market in December 2025 was billed as the biggest yet with “over 80” young traders and performers. Bromborough tops that at more than 85. It comes with business support after the day. This year’s event is funded through the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority’s Local Growth Fund, and for the first time the council is bolting on a support offer through the Wirral Business Support Service: workshops, one-to-one mentoring and help with business plans, so that traders who do well on the day have somewhere to go next. Earlier markets were funded through the city region’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund allocation. Council leader Cllr Paula Basnett said: “We don’t know where the next successful local business, entrepreneur or employer will come from, but initiatives like this help create those opportunities.” (Wirral View, 11 August 2026; Wirral View, 16 October 2025)

By the council’s own count the markets had attracted more than 20,000 visitors between them by October 2025 and more than 30,000 by July 2026, and it says several past stallholders have gone on to build lasting businesses, some with national recognition. What it means for you

If you are going. Saturday 22 August, 10am to 4pm, Allport Lane, Bromborough. Free entry, free fairground rides for children. Bromborough station is on the Merseyrail Chester line, about 26 minutes from Liverpool Central; see our Wirral trains to Liverpool page for fares and frequencies. The market is on Allport Lane itself, so if you drive, allow extra time; the council has not published parking or traffic arrangements for the day. If you are a young trader who missed it. The 11 August announcement gives the Bromborough line-up as settled. The pattern since 2023 has been a summer market and a Christmas market each year, and the December 2025 call for stallholders went out in mid October. If you run a shop in Bromborough. The council’s stated aim is footfall for the town centre as well as a platform for the traders; the West Kirby edition was the first there and pulled its record crowd. It is a Saturday worth being open and staffed for.
